• Question: What do you think are the strengths and weaknesses of CBT

      Hello! Great question. I think the strengths are that is has a good well-researched evidence base, it is very common-sense based as well, it is practical, it is time-limited, and you can measure if it is working or not.

      The weaknesses are that it doesn’t work for everyone (no treatment does) and I think we don’t know enough yet about why it doesn’t work for some people.

      I also think the perceptions of it can be that it is too short or just a sticking plaster for the problem – that’s not my experience of it, and sometimes it goes on for longer if needed, but because it is so practical and common-sense it makes people think it is superficial, which is a shame.
