• Question: Do you think your podcasts will broaden people's perspective or help people who have recently been in jail for the second time find out why they’ve made the same mistake twice?

Great question – I am picturing more of the broadening perspectives – it’s tricky for people to find out about prisons – because you can’t just walk in. This makes it easy to misunderstand what it is like – for example, I read information in the newspapers sometimes claiming that:

‘Prisons are like holiday camps’ – they are really not like any holiday camp I’ve been to!
‘Prisoners are all on drugs’ – drugs are definitely a problem for some people in prison, but not everyone.
‘Prisons are dangerous places’ – unfortunately violence does happen in prison – but most of the time for most people they do not feel dangerous or scary.

Generally, more information about a situation is helpful so that people can make an informed decision about what they think about prisons and prisoners. This is what I’m hoping that the podcast might help with.
