Hey!
We simply do not know yet. Some scientists believe it would be almost mathematically impossible to be alone because the universe is so huge and has so many planets – that the chance we are the only place where life has arisen is just too small.
But we have no evidence for life outside earth yet – and even if there was it would be so hard to detect that we might never know.
You might want to ask this question in another zone – as this does not have much to do with Psychology. Until we meet aliens, that is…

I think what I would say is that Stephen Hawkins suggesting any race advanced enough to visit us would most likely be hostile and want to start a war/takeover. Maybe it is best we are alone!

No-one knows. All we know is that we have not encountered anyone yet. But one thing is sure. If there is other intelligent life and they make contact with us, we would absolutely know about it

The scale of the universe is so large – and pretty hard for our brains to comprehend – that even if there was other life out there, it would be so tricky to find out. For now I guess that means we are alone! 🙂
As a human species however we’ve done such an impressive job (though it also has it’s drawbacks) of developing in number across the earth, that most of us are certainly not alone! It is interesting that psychology research has shown that when there are larger numbers of people in a group, it is less likely that an individual might step in to help e.g. in an emergency – perhaps then it is the case that we might sometimes feel alone even when there are many people around us.

I don’t think we know about potential alien life. But we are all in this Earth together, so anything we can do to be a little kinder to each other is a good thing in my book.
