This might seem cheesy, but I think any improvement is good improvement. Often people go into things like science because they want to make a huge change. That’s great! But sometimes those day to day improvements, those little steps, can sometimes be so much more important in the long run. It reminds me of a quote by Walter Elliot:

“Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other”

I think its fab and really sums up what we all probably need more of in life!

Developing the Internet is the biggest improvement there has been to society since the industrial revolution. It has really been a second industrial revolution

There are some changes in technology which make my job a bit easier – things like using my finger print to get keys when I go into a prison – we used to have to ask for them from a person – but now it is safer and quicker by using a fingerprint.

      Hey BB,

This is a great question because it forced me to think about what good I have done for my job here, personally. I think the best improvement I have made personally is to make the psychology labs here really welcoming. We have a big group of rooms for psychology research that staff and students are allowed to use – but they were often very quiet. I put up lots of posters, cool pictures of previous students and graduation and fun psychology things. I encouraged students to use the rooms for study and hanging out – and now they are busy all day.

The reason this is so good, is because older students share experience with younger students, and younger students share their new ideas. Communication is a huge part of psychology – so keeping people interacting is a big achievement for me 🙂

As for what others have done – wow. LOADS. People have invented theories, technology, designed excellent classes on interesting topics, and made everyone welcome in psychology. I would mention some of my inspirational colleagues for making teaching brilliant in Psychology, too 🙂

I think asking patients more what they think has really improved psychological therapies – anything that is less about seeing people as “us and them” – everybody is human and everybody has the potential to feel overwhelming emotions at times.
